Things to do with teenagers

Let’s face it, teens are a bit of a tough crowd. Whether it’s the school holidays and they’re declaring there’s “literally nothing to do”, or just another weekend you’re looking to fill, coming up with ideas that aren’t met with an eyeroll can feel like an impossible task. Don’t worry though, as this is where we come in to save the day.

From high-energy adventures to more low-key nights in, we’ve pulled together a bunch of ideas they’re bound to enjoy (even if they won’t admit it). Here are ten fun things to do with teenagers that’ll help you make some lasting memories!

  1. Host a games night

When it comes to fun things to do with teens, an at-home games night can be a winner. Fill the table with snacks and drinks, queue up a good playlist, then settle down to an evening of friendly competition. You could dust off the classics like Uno and Monopoly, then throw something new into the mix, like Exploding Kittens or What Do You Meme?

Want to make it even more competitive? Turn it into a mini tournament complete with scoreboards and prizes for the winner!

  2. Book an afternoon tea

Tea parties definitely aren’t just for kids, so why not book a traditional afternoon tea for two? This is a great excuse to slow down, have a good chat, and indulge in some tasty treats (we’re talking finger sandwiches, scones, and a selection of delicious cakes).

  3. Head out to a comedy evening

If you think they’ll prefer something a little livelier, you could book a comedy night for two instead! Whether they’re into dry humour or witty one-liners, find something the both of you will enjoy for a guaranteed good time. Top tip: Make it into a full night out with dinner before or after.

  4. Have a movie marathon

Why not stock up on some popcorn and enjoy an at-home movie evening together? This is a great way to chill out and spend some quality time together. And if you can’t decide what to watch, let your teen introduce you to one of their favourites, then hit them with an iconic classic too. You could even get the whole family involved and theme the night with snacks and dress codes!

  5. Try an escape room

After more adventurous things to do with teenagers? An escape room is the perfect way to put your teamwork (and patience) to the test. Whether you’re solving a mystery, escaping a zombie lab, or navigating a haunted house, this idea brings fast-paced fun (plus it’s a guaranteed memory maker).

  6. Get creative

Next up we have the idea of tapping into your creative side with a DIY crafting session. You could plan a paint-and-sip (with mocktails), dive into some jewellery making, or even design your own vision boards! Not only will you walk away with something unique, but you might even discover a new shared hobby too.

  7. Catch a live gig

There’s nothing quite like the buzz of a live gig, especially when you love the artist that’s playing. Whether you head out to a small jazz venue or a packed-out stadium, scroll through some upcoming events and surprise your teen with tickets to see their fave artist. Even if it’s not your kind of thing, seeing their face light up during the first song will be well worth it.

  8. Plan a mini day trip

Another option is to shake up your daily routine by planning a fun adventure! Instead of the typical trip to a nearby city, head to a quirky town filled with hidden bookshops, cool street art, and yummy lunch spots. We’d recommend letting your teen help plan the day too. They’ll be more into it this way, and it might even become a new tradition!

  9. Visit a theme park

When it comes to activities to do with teenagers, theme parks are hard to beat. Whether they’re adrenaline junkies or just in it for the snacks and photo ops, there’s something everyone will enjoy. Plus, with so many dotted around the UK, there’s likely one not too far from you!

  10. Check out local events

Wondering what to do with teenagers closer to home? Whether it’s a summer festival, craft fair, or sports game, sometimes staying closer to home can be just as fun. Just keep an eye out for local events that sound up their street, then pop one in the calendar.

And there you have it: ten fun activities that you and your teen can get stuck into (and actually enjoy). Whether they’re into energetic adventures or prefer a chilled night in, just pick one of the above and get started.
